Description
Loliondo Camp is in our wonderful
Loliondo Concession, which immediately borders the north-eastern
boundary of the Serengeti and is close to the south-eastern side
of the Masai Mara. This is a place of outstanding natural beauty
with a landscape of differing habitats: from sweeping grassy plains
to rolling wooded hills, acacia-lined watercourses and dramatic
granite kopjes.
The tented accommodation is luxuriously comfortable
and spacious with en-suite bathrooms and is, naturally, fully and
tastefully furnished. The tents are spread out throughout the kopje
area with the dining tent at the base of the main kopje rock. Resident
game is plentiful in the area, drawn during the dry seasons by the
nearby waterhole and increasing in the spring and (especially) the
autumn, when the Migration can be expected to pass through the Concession
on its way to/from the Mara area.
Rooms / Facilities
Loliondo’s tents are as follows:
5 double and twin customised safari tents. The
largest tent available for safari camping and as used for our classic
camping.
Each tent is fully and tastefully furnished with:
|
Comfortable, (twin) beds with 6” mattresses,
pillows, blankets & sheets. |
|
Luggage rack, table, safari chairs, mats &
soft furnishings in individual style. |
|
Solar lighting in both the bedroom and enuite
toilet and shower room |
|
Dining room with waiter service |
In addition the camp has:
|
A locally furnished dining tent for breakfast,
lunch and romantic, candle-lit dinners. |
|
A campfire area. |
|
Complete privacy. |
Activities
Loliondo Camp is a perfect springboard for various differing
activities throughout the Concession, many of which are listed overleaf
as they take guests away from Loliondo Camp for 1 - 5 days. However,
for those who are staying at Loliondo Camp and not partaking of
the more adventurous possibilities, the following will ensure a
wonderful and memorable stay:
 |
Day and half day game drives |
 |
Night game drives |
 |
Walking from 1 hours to full days |
 |
Fly camping from 1 to 4 days |
 |
Ethno-botanical guided walks (with local Maasai) |
 |
Cultural interaction with Maasai (limited
time and impact visits) |
 |
Especially on family safaris: a chance for
children and adolescents to spend time with their Maasai counterparts
and learn how young life is lived in Africa. |
Location
map
Loliondo Camp is set towards the southern
side of our Concession - and facing south - at the base of a granite
monolith that shades the camp from the elements and feeds a waterhole
frequented by game. As this is a completely private area, it is
a superb place to really experience Africa - totally removed from
any other tourism. Loliondo camp is easily reached by air and by
road, being approximately:
 |
80 minutes scheduled flight from Arusha
(to Kleins), then c.1 hours drive (depending on game). |
 |
75 minutes flight charter from Arusha (to
Wasso), then c. 45 minutes drive (depending on game). |
 |
20-minute flight (Kleins) from Seronera. |
 |
3/4 to 1 day’s drive from Ngorongoro
(shorter routing: Eastern side of SNP; longer routing: via
Seronera & Lobo). |
 |
Half day drive from Seronera. |
 |
45 minutes from Lobo Lodge. |
 |
35 minutes from Klein’s Camp (note
that guests from Klein’s are unable to access Loliondo
without special permission). |
Loliondo camp is therefore an idea
end to a northern circuit safari, and with easy charter options
can be combined with many other places, such as West
Kilimanjaro or even options further south.
